When the hell did Cadillac become so self absorbed?

Okay, can someone explain this to me? I can totally see the ad being a "we are better than the rest of the world because AMERICA FUCK YEAH!" but self absorbed? I am not getting that feeling of brand superiority from the commercial and to be honest you can't tell its a Cadillac one until the last 15 seconds. I have seen posts about this before, I never watched it until just now and I thought there might be a good reason for all this hate. From what I just saw though there really isn't much that seems too overbearing apart from the sheer amount of FREEDOM and AMERICA, I was half expecting a bald eagle to do a flyby while clutching an American flag in the background.

Cadillacs ad came off to me as work hard and you can buy a Cadillac while Fords came off as Why not do something to help the world.

I felt they were the same with just Ford adding the eco friendly spin on it. Considering the only Cadillacs that I want start around $65,000 I think the work hard to buy a Cadillac message is fairly apt here. It isn't like a Mazda or a Honda, not to knock them or anything as both have great cars but Cadillac is a bit upmarket from them and goes after people with a bit more cash in their pockets. Ford though has a decent market in both areas so they have a much more diverse customer base.

The people who have such a problem with the Cadillac ad are American apologists. I'm not one to be all "Murica, fuck yeah!", but I don't see the problem in the ad. It's the whole point of America's attitude about capitalist, freedom, and success. If people don't like it, I always encourage them to find somewhere more to their liking.
